The WHYALLA Branch of the National Trust, SA is headquartered in the Mt. Laura Homestead Museum. The main building is the Mt. Laura Homestead which was built in 1922 on the Mt. Laura sheep station. The stone front of the building was added in 1933. As the city of Whyalla grew, the owners (the Nicolson family) sold a portion of their land for development by The South Australian Housing Trust in 1967. Seven and a quarter acres around the homestead was given to the Whyalla City Commision with the provision that the homestead was retained for preservation of the past. This is now the site of the museum which is now bounded by Ekblom St. and Ian St.

Branch Members and Volunteers operate the Museum.
